Charleston, SC, June 10, 2010 – Musicorp, a leading distributor and manufacturer of musical instruments, lighting products and accessories, sponsored a Battle of the Bands Contest presented by Dave Janssen School of Music in Simi Valley, California. The Battle of the Bands Contest was held at the Cajon Creole Music Festival in Memorial Park in Simi Valley over the 2010 Memorial Weekend.

The Battle of the Bands Contest was held at one of three stages at the Cajun Creole Music Festival. The winning band in the 13 to 16 age category was Right to Light. Musicorp Region Manager, Dan Murdy, represented Musicorp as one of the judges for the final competition and presented Fender strings to the winning band.

After the competition, Dan Murdy stated, “I was very impressed with how well Dave Janssen and his staff of teachers prepared these young musicians for their performances. It is very rewarding to see the excitement on the faces of these kids as they experience live performance for the first time.”

The twelve bands that competed consisted of Dave Janssen School of Music student musicians, ranging from nine to eighteen. Over ten thousand people attend the Cajon Creole Music Festival each year. “We always strive to seek avenues to support music education,” said Dan Roberts, Musicorp VP of Sales.
